The Purpose of Assisted Living
The valedictorian and recipient of a BS in healthcare administration from St. Joseph’s College, and a recipient of Highest Honors with a MBA in Healthcare Management, Paul Wasser has been in the healthcare sector for more than two decades. He leads Healthcare Operations and Advisory Services of New York as president and CEO. In 2015, Paul Wasser received the innovative practice award, as well as administrator of the year in 2013, both from New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSCAL)
The American Health Care Association represents assisted living providers through National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL). NCAL aims to meet the needs of the assisted living community through public education, networking, advocacy, quality initiatives, and professional development.
The idea of assisted living is based on providing person-centered support and services to every resident. Individuals who require assistance with daily activities and some health care services but do not need round-the-clock expert nursing care for lengthy periods of time benefit from assisted living homes. These communities provide a unique blend of friendship, privacy, and security in home-like settings.
Wasser served as a board member for NCAL and was instrumental along with fellow board members, in assisting state affiliates in reaching their goals of quality care and independence for their residents. He and the leadership of the board and organization advocated and lobbied in Washington to initiate regulatory changes that facilitated quality initiatives for their constituents, the residents. This is no surprise for Wasser as he and his team at Dominican Village achieved the AHCA/NCAL Silver Quality Award in 2019, the only Assisted Living community in New York State to be given that recognition.
